Borno NSCDC Clarifies Timeline, Disputes Media Report on Checkpoint Incident

Maiduguri - The Borno State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has refuted a recent online report which it says inaccurately linked former State Commandant Mohammed Agalama to an incident at the Njimtilo checkpoint.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by Command Spokesman James Bulus, the NSCDC described the publication by Zagazola Media Network as one-sided and misleading.

According to the statement, the incident in question occurred on July 9, 2025, during the tenure of Commandant Abdulrazaq Haroon — not under Agalama, who assumed office on August 27, 2025, and served for about two months before being transferred to Kano.

Bulus noted that the report, titled “Fresh scandal hits Borno State Command NSCDC – Njimtilo incident” and dated November 24, 2025, failed to contact the command for its perspective and contained factual inaccuracies that misrepresented the corps.

“The management wishes to state categorically that the Njimtilo incident cited in the article occurred during the tenure of Comdt. Abdulrazaq Haroon and not during that of Comdt. Mohammed Agalama,” the statement read. “This factual error casts doubt on the accuracy of the entire narrative.”

The command also emphasized that a high-powered committee had been set up to investigate the checkpoint incident, and its report has been forwarded to NSCDC national headquarters in Abuja.

“The current State Commandant, CC Ahmed Gaya, appeals to all parties involved to remain calm and await the outcome of the committee’s findings,” Bulus added.

The statement concluded by urging the publication to issue a clarification and correction, reaffirming the NSCDC’s commitment to transparency and due process.
