First Lady’s Initiative Grants ₦200,000 Each to 250 Persons with Disabilities in Zamfara

The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has launched an economic empowerment scheme for 250 persons with disabilities in Zamfara State under her Renewed Hope Initiative.

Speaking at the event held on Wednesday at the GB Yakubu Secretariat in Gusau, Senator Tinubu explained that the program will provide a ₦200,000 business recapitalization grant to 250 beneficiaries in each state and the Federal Capital Territory.

“The nation grows stronger when every individual is empowered to contribute meaningfully,” she said.

Represented by the wife of Zamfara State Governor, Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal, the First Lady stated that the initiative is designed to help small business owners strengthen their livelihoods by recapitalizing existing enterprises.

She further announced that each state, the FCT, and the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association will receive ₦50 million for distribution within their domains. Nationwide, a total of 9,500 persons with disabilities are set to benefit, with grants totaling ₦1.9 billion.

According to Senator Tinubu, the scheme aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which emphasizes inclusive growth and ensures no Nigerian is left behind.

“This gesture is part of the Renewed Hope Initiative’s activities marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities,” she added.

She noted that over the past two years, the initiative has supported more than 100,000 women petty traders, small business owners, and persons with disabilities through direct financial grants.

“Our commitment to improving lives has also been shown through various interventions in agriculture, economic empowerment, education, health, and social welfare, all aimed at enhancing the well-being of families across Nigeria,” she stated.

The First Lady also commended Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal for her support in bringing the initiative to Zamfara State.

She urged beneficiaries to use the grants productively: “Let it be a seed that grows into something greater—a business that sustains you and your family.”
