Plateau state on the Rise: Governor Mutfwang Innovative Approach to Agriculture and Community Development

 

Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang of Plateau State has taken significant steps to boost agriculture and empower communities. He commissioned 20 tractors for farming communities, ensuring they benefit both the state and its people. Plans are underway to secure over 200 additional tractors to enhance agricultural activities, promoting food security and sovereignty.

In addition to the tractor commissioning, Governor Mutfwang presented a $250,000 Community Revolving Fund (CRF) cheque to ten communities, including Guratop, Kerang, Zamko, Ampang West, Dinting, Jimin, Kaler, Plateau Club/Bingham, Pishe, Yashi, and Wereh. Each community received $25,000, with the expectation of repaying the funds after a specified period to empower other communities

The initiative aligns with Governor Mutfwang's administration's vision for food security and economic empowerment. He urged the communities to utilize the funds optimally, creating a revolving financial opportunity for broader community development. The World Bank Country Director for Nigeria, Dr. Ndiame Diop, congratulated the beneficiary communities and emphasized the importance of addressing climate change's adverse effects on agriculture.¹

Governor Mutfwang also stressed the need for citizens to unite in supporting government initiatives and cautioned against divisive tendencies. He encouraged the cultivation of available land, especially in schools, during the coming farming season. Notable dignitaries, including the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Gabriel Dewan, and the ACReSAL Task Team Leader, Dr. Joy Iganya Agene, attended the event.
