Christian Leader Urges CAN to Clarify 2027 Remarks, Warns Against Religious Division in Nasarawa

A concerned Christian stakeholder in Nasarawa State, Joseph Kaura, has called on the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Nasarawa State Chapter, to respond to a statement credited to Hon. Daniel Oga Ogazi regarding the 2027 governorship race.

In a video circulating on social media, Hon. Ogazi was quoted as saying that the time for a Christian to become Governor of Nasarawa State has not yet come, and urging Christians to support APC.

Reacting to the development, the stakeholder Joseph Kaura described the comment as capable of causing division among Christians in the state, and urged CAN to intervene for clarity and cohesion.

He called on the CAN leadership to: Engage Hon. Ogazi to seek clarification on the statement attributed to him; Reaffirm the neutrality of CAN as a body that should not be used for partisan political interests; and Sensitize Christians across the state on the need for unity and collective participation ahead of 2027.

According to him, Nasarawa State belongs to all its citizens regardless of faith, and the Christian community must remain united, wise and discerning as political activities build up to 2027.

"Nasarawa is for all of us. 2027 presents an opportunity for Christians to unite and speak with one voice. We must not be swayed by divisive narratives, but remain focused on peace, equity and the progress of our dear state," he stated.

He further urged political actors to avoid statements that could polarize the state along religious lines, and to prioritize issues of development, security and good governance.
