Nasarawa APC in Turmoil as Two Ex-Chairmen Dump Party for SDP

In a major political shakeup, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) is poised to receive a significant boost following the defection of two high-profile former APC leaders from Karu Local Government Area.

Hon. Lawal Yakubu Karshi, a former two-term Deputy Chairman of Karu LGA and immediate-past Special Adviser to the Governor, alongside Hon. Yahaya Muazu Dorowa, a former Executive Chairman of Karu LGA, formally resigned their membership from the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday.

In his resignation letter addressed to the APC Chairman of Karshi 1 Ward, Hon. Karshi cited "a glaring lack of internal democracy" within the party as the primary motivation for his decision to leave. Hon. Dorowa swiftly followed suit, relinquishing his membership to align with the SDP.

The two leaders are scheduled to be formally received into the SDP tomorrow by the Karu LGA SDP Chairman, Hon. Joseph M. Kaura, alongside a host of party officials and enthusiastic supporters from across the local government.

SDP stakeholders have hailed the defection wave as a powerful signal of the party's growing appeal and its deepening commitment to grassroots politics in Karu and across Nasarawa State. They describe the move as a strategic victory that underscores the SDP's rising stature as a formidable alternative ahead of future electoral contests.
