Mutfwang, Army Unite for Plateau's Peace as New Commander Takes Charge

Jos, Plateau State – Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has pledged to sustain his administration’s robust partnership with the Nigerian Army, aiming to strengthen security and create a fertile ground for investment and sustainable development across the state.

The Governor made the commitment on Thursday, Jduring a courtesy visit at the New Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos, as he welcomed the outgoing General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander of Operation Enduring Peace, Major General Eyitayo Oyinlola, alongside his successor, Major General Wunukhe Maxwell Dangana.

Governor Mutfwang paid a glowing tribute to Major General Oyinlola, praising his courage and professionalism during his 18-month tenure. He noted that the outgoing commander’s leadership was pivotal in stabilizing the state through a mix of kinetic operations and peace-building initiatives.

"The outgoing Commander's leadership was instrumental in confronting security threats. Were it not for his commitment, the enemies of Plateau would have inflicted far greater pain on our people," Mutfwang stated. "We remain grateful for his sacrifices. Wherever you are posted, we urge you to remain an ambassador of Plateau State."

The Governor also expressed confidence in Major General Dangana’s ability to consolidate these gains, emphasizing the need to strengthen military-community relations to protect lives and property.

In his farewell address, Major General Oyinlola expressed deep appreciation for the Governor’s unwavering support.

"Anytime I called on His Excellency, he was always available—logistically, operationally, morally, and spiritually," Oyinlola said. "We know the Plateau we met 18 months ago and the Plateau we are leaving today. There were far more successes than setbacks because of the Governor's consistent support."

He introduced his successor as a seasoned officer ready to continue the mission and appealed to the government and community leaders to extend the same cooperation.

Echoing this sentiment, the incoming GOC, Major General Dangana, pledged to build on the existing framework.

"I am committed to building on the achievements of my predecessor. Together with other security agencies and the state government, we will ensure Plateau remains peaceful and conducive for development," Dangana assured.

The meeting was attended by senior government officials and military top brass, underscoring the unity between the state and the armed forces.
