Governor Abdullahi Sule Lauded for Approving Multi-Million Naira Equipment for Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital

The Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, Akwanga, has taken delivery of hospital equipment worth over 100 million naira (representing an initial 70% of the short term equipment) to bolster tertiary healthcare services in the state.

Receiving the equipment at the hospital's temporary site in Akwanga, the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Dr. Esala E. Abene, disclosed that Governor Engr. Abdullahi Sule gave the approval for the purchase. He commended the governor for his prompt attention to the specialist hospital.

Dr. Abene also praised the Commissioner of Health for his wisdom in setting up a transitional technical committee before the establishment of DASH Akwanga who made recommendations after assessing the gaps that would exist once DASH Lafia halts its operations and General Hospital Akwanga transitions fully into a specialist hospital.

According to him, the committee itemized the gaps in terms of human resources and equipment. "For a general hospital to become a specialist hospital, there must be a specific set of equipment. Since the permanent site of the specialist hospital is still under construction, we needed short-term equipment for sustainable services and so we sought and obtained the governor's approval to purchase the necessary equipment," he explained.

He noted that some of the equipment are already in use in ophthalmology, while others have been deployed to the laboratory and radiology units.

He further stated that some of these equipment will also serve the hospital long-term once it relocates to its permanent site.

Dr. Abene appealed to the staff to make judicious use of the equipment for the benefit of all people in the state and beyond.

In her remarks, the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Dr. Rimini Kefas Manchunga, emphasized the need for staff to handle the equipment with care. She also appreciated the Governor and the management for the procurement.
