We Trust APC NWC to Correct Primary Injustice in Plateau North – Ex-Senator Gyang

Former Senator representing Plateau North, Senator I.D. Gyang, has expressed confidence that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will ensure justice regarding the controversy surrounding the party’s senatorial primary election in Plateau North.

In a statement issued by the Director General of the I.D. Gyang Campaign Council, Comrade Lot Adas, the former lawmaker described the circumstances of the primary election as deeply troubling. He alleged that party members were denied the opportunity to freely elect their preferred candidate through a transparent democratic process.

According to the statement, the credibility of democracy depends on respect for the people's mandate, internal party democracy, fairness, and due process. It warned that any attempt to impose outcomes contrary to the wishes of party members could undermine confidence in democratic institutions.

“While political leadership and influence remain legitimate within party politics, the imposition of outcomes against the popular will of party members weakens confidence in democratic institutions and risks alienating loyal stakeholders who have laboured tirelessly for the growth and stability of the party,” the statement said.

The campaign council further alleged that no senatorial primary election was conducted in Plateau North, claiming that results were instead fabricated to favour a predetermined outcome.

“It is public knowledge that the senatorial primary elections were not conducted in Plateau North. Rather, results were concocted and allocated to suit a predetermined outcome. It would therefore be injurious to, and a negation of good conscience and the fear of God for anyone to assert the contrary,” the statement added.

Senator Gyang’s camp maintained that the strength of the APC lies in its grassroots membership, insisting that the voices and votes of party members must not be replaced by predetermined arrangements.

The statement also referenced recent comments by APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, indicating that the National Working Committee is reviewing reports submitted by the party’s Appeal Committee on the conduct of National Assembly primary elections across the country.

Expressing optimism in the ongoing review process, the campaign council urged supporters and party faithful to remain calm, peaceful, and vigilant while awaiting the NWC’s decision.

“Our position is rooted in the defence of justice, equity, and the democratic rights of APC members and the people of Plateau North,” the statement concluded.
