Plateau Governor Mutfwang, Deputy Piyo Lead Thanksgiving Service, Cite God’s Faithfulness Amid Legal Battles & Security Challenges

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang and Deputy Governor Josephine Piyo on Sunday led a special thanksgiving service to commemorate three years of their current administration, expressing profound gratitude to God and the people of Plateau State for their unwavering support throughout their journey in office.

The thanksgiving service, held at the COCIN Headquarters Church in Jos, drew a large congregation of political leaders, traditional rulers, religious figures, government officials, and supporters from across the state.

Speaking during the service, Governor Mutfwang reflected on the challenges and victories that have defined his administration since assuming office in 2023. He acknowledged God's faithfulness during the election process, the legal battles that threatened his mandate, and the security challenges confronting Plateau State.

“Through it all, I have learned to trust in Jesus; I have learned to trust in God. Through it all, I have learned to depend upon His Word,” the governor said, emphasizing that the obstacles he encountered strengthened his resolve to serve the people.

Mutfwang highlighted key achievements recorded by his administration over the past three years, revealing that more than ₦16 billion had been paid in pensions and gratuities, while over ₦4 billion had been expended on medical support for vulnerable citizens.

Recalling the impact of some government interventions, the governor said he was deeply moved by the restoration of water supply to communities that had gone nearly two decades without public water. “When I saw women dancing after water returned to communities that had gone nearly twenty years without public water supply, I shed tears. These are the images that push me on,” he stated.

The governor also pointed to investments in transportation, healthcare, agriculture, education, tourism, water supply, and peacebuilding initiatives. He noted that the Plateau Specialist Hospital now boasts one of the most advanced laboratories in the country, while improvements have also been recorded through the State Drugs and Medical Commodities Management Agency and the Plateau State Ambulance Service.

As his administration begins its fourth year, Mutfwang pledged to remain committed to protecting the interests of Plateau people, promoting sustainable development, and giving citizens a voice in governance. He called on residents to remain united and prayerful in support of the state's development.

The governor paid special tribute to women, youths, and children who stood by him during the legal challenges that culminated in the Supreme Court's reaffirmation of his election victory. “I will never forget the sacrifices of the women and children who celebrated the reaffirmation of our mandate. Their faith, hope, and solidarity remain unforgettable,” he said.

Deputy Governor Ngo Josephine Piyo, in her remarks, thanked God for sustaining the administration and appreciated Plateau citizens for entrusting them with leadership. She highlighted progress in road construction and rehabilitation, healthcare, agriculture, education, tourism, water supply, and youth empowerment, describing the achievements as evidence of the government's commitment to rebuilding the state.

Former Plateau State Governor Rear Admiral Bitrus Atukum (Rtd.), speaking on behalf of former governors, commended Mutfwang's dedication to governance and urged citizens to continue supporting the administration. “We have seen the remarkable efforts of the governor, and this is because he genuinely has the interests of the people at heart. We must continue to pray for him and unite ourselves for the peace and prosperity of Plateau State,” Atukum said.

Also speaking, the Gbong Gwom Jos and Chairman of the Plateau State Council of Chiefs and Emirs, Da Jacob Gyang Buba, represented by the Agwom Izere, Da Isaac Wakili, praised the administration's efforts in promoting peace, infrastructure development, healthcare, transportation, and agriculture. He urged political leaders to avoid divisive rhetoric capable of undermining the state's progress.

Delivering the sermon titled “Thanksgiving and the Call to Unity,” the Plateau State CAN Chairman, Rev. Dunka Gomwalk, called on citizens to embrace gratitude and work together to overcome security and developmental challenges. “Plateau is under intense pressure from forces that seek to undermine our peace and progress. What unites us must always be greater than what divides us,” he said.

The service also featured goodwill messages from church leaders, including COCIN President Rev. Dr. Amos Mohzo and CAN President Archbishop Daniel Okoh, represented by Vice President Rev. Stephen Panya Baba. They commended Governor Mutfwang's leadership and urged continued prayers for the peace, unity, and development of Plateau State.
