Emir of Jama’a Hosts Historic Joint Iftar for Ramadan and Lent

In a powerful display of interfaith harmony, the Emir of Jama’a, His Royal Highness Alhaji Muhammadu Isa Muhammadu II, hosted a special Ramadan Iftar bringing together Muslim and Christian leaders, government officials, and community members from across the Emirate.

The event, held at the Emir's Palace, convened a diverse group of religious clerics, traditional title holders, and political figures. Its aim was to foster unity and dialogue during a period when both the Islamic month of Ramadan and the Christian season of Lent are being observed concurrently.

Representing the Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, his Political Counsellor, Hon. Ado Dogo Audu, praised the Emir's initiative as a model for inclusive leadership. He reaffirmed the state government's dedication to supporting grassroots peace-building efforts in Southern Kaduna and beyond.

“The Kaduna State Government recognizes the vital importance of such gatherings. We will continue to support programs that build bridges of peace, unity, and development within our communities,” Hon. Audu stated.

In his welcome address, the Emir highlighted that the interfaith Iftar is an annual event designed to transcend differences. "This gathering brings us together to share a meal and discuss matters of common interest, always with the goal of ensuring mutual respect and understanding among all our people," he said.

The Emir noted the unique spiritual significance of the 2026 fasting period. "This year is special. As Muslims observe Ramadan, our Christian brothers and sisters are also observing the Lenten fast. This beautiful coincidence is a clear sign that we are all one under God, seeking His blessings through sacrifice and prayer."

He also commended Governor Uba Sani for his leadership, which he described as instrumental in fostering the peace and stability that allows for meaningful development in the state.

Adding his voice, the Executive Chairman of Jama’a Local Government Council, Hon. Peter Tanko Dogara, urged all residents to view the overlapping fasting seasons as a moment for collective prayer, sacrifice, and spiritual renewal. "This convergence is a powerful symbol of our shared humanity and devotion to God," he said. "Let us intensify our prayers for lasting peace, security, and progress in Jama’a, Kaduna State, and Nigeria as a whole."

The Chairman of the occasion, Mr. Jerry Adams, underscored the practical necessity of unity. "Peace and unity are not just lofty ideals; they are the essential foundations for development and economic growth," Mr. Adams asserted. "True progress cannot thrive in an atmosphere of division. By bringing everyone together, the Emir is championing the kind of leadership that creates opportunities for investment and youth empowerment."

A sermon on the shared values of fasting was delivered by the Chief Imam of Jama’a Central Mosque, Alhaji Kabir Dan’azumi Kassim. He explained that in both Islam and Christianity, fasting is a spiritual discipline that teaches compassion, sacrifice, generosity, and strengthens moral values, encouraging support for the less privileged.

Echoing the sentiment of unity, the Jaruman Jama’a and Jakadiyan Jaba, Mrs. Deborah Usman, lauded the Emir’s consistent championing of peace. She described the interfaith Iftar as a clear reflection of visionary and responsible leadership that embraces all segments of society.

The historic gathering concluded with joint prayers for continued peace, stability, and unity among the people of Jama’a Emirate and the nation.
