Over 400,000 Nasarawa Residents Indicate interest to join ADC as Party Gears Up for 2027 Elections

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Nasarawa State has received a massive boost ahead of the 2027 general elections, with over 400,000 residents indicating interest in joining the party.

Mr. John Michael-Abdul, Chairman of the party's Transitional Leadership Team in the state, disclosed this during an expanded stakeholders' meeting in Lafia on Saturday. Michael-Abdul, a former Deputy Governor of Nasarawa, stated that the influx of new members significantly strengthens the party's bid to capture power in the upcoming elections.

According to him, the prospective members have already submitted their details to a committee tasked with overseeing registration across the state’s 13 Local Government Areas.

"We are being taken seriously because of our track record and antecedents," Michael-Abdul said. He expressed confidence that the momentum would translate into victory for the ADC in 2027. To formalize the process, he assured that the party would soon issue membership cards and launch an online registration drive. This digital push aims to maintain comprehensive records of members both online and in physical registers across all 147 electoral wards in the state.

The event also witnessed the formal reception of defectors from the Labour Party, led by Engr. Gambo Abdullahi-Balarebe. Welcoming them into the ADC fold was Sen. Patricia Akwashiki, the National Deputy Chairman of the party.

Sen. Akwashiki, a veteran politician who has served as Minister of Information, federal lawmaker, and senator, assured the new entrants of a level playing field. "In ADC, there is no discrimination based on when you joined. Everyone will have equal opportunities," she stated.

Describing the ADC as both the present and the future of Nigeria, Akwashiki emphasized the party’s wealth of experienced personnel. "We have what it takes—well-experienced and competent individuals—to address the challenges confronting our nation and transform it for the good of all citizens," she added.

Echoing the commitment to internal democracy, Sen. Suleiman Adokwe, Chief of Staff to the Party's National Chairman, David Mark, called for unity and cooperation among members. He stressed that the ADC distinguishes itself from other parties by its dedication to justice and equity.

"We will not impose candidates," Adokwe declared. "Whoever emerges from our primaries will fly the party's flag, regardless of their status in society. We want to present candidates who are the products of majority choices—popular and competent individuals who can face other political parties without creating unnecessary rancour by changing the people's will."

The expanded meeting drew a large crowd, including state and local government officials, as well as aspirants for governorship, national and state assembly positions, and other critical stakeholders from all 13 LGAs of the state. (NAN)
