Lent and Ramadan: A Season of Divine Convergence, Says Senator Katung, as He Cities #8 billion Health Boast

Senator representing the Southern Kaduna Senatorial District, Barrister Sunday Marshall Katung, has called on Christians and Muslims to view the concurrent observance of the Lenten season and Ramadan this year as a "divine convergence"—a spiritual period that underscores their shared values of faith, self-discipline, charity, and devotion to God.

In a statement released to press in Kaduna, the Senator emphasized that this rare alignment of the two holy periods presents a timely opportunity to strengthen interfaith harmony, promote mutual understanding, and reinforce the bonds of brotherhood that unite the community.

Expressing gratitude to his constituents, Senator Katung acknowledged their unwavering support, prayers, and trust. "Representing you remains both an honour and a privilege, one that I deeply cherish and never take for granted," he stated. "From the depths of my heart, I thank you for believing in me. Your encouragement, guidance, and constructive feedback have been invaluable in our shared journey toward progress."

In a significant development regarding his legislative deliverables, Senator Katung announced a landmark partnership with Project C.U.R.E., an international humanitarian organisation based in the United States. The collaboration is set to facilitate the supply of medical equipment valued at approximately ₦8 billion to several general hospitals across the senatorial district.

Described as a five-year initial partnership, the initiative aims to strengthen healthcare delivery through the provision of medical supplies, equipment, and capacity-building support for healthcare professionals. According to the Senator, this effort aligns with and complements the ongoing healthcare agenda of Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, while also supporting the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Senator Katung also highlighted recent infrastructural and administrative gains for the zone. He noted the decision by the Kaduna State Executive Council to officially hand over the Sir Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa Memorial Hospital to the Federal Government, paving the way for the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Kafanchan.

"On behalf of the people of Southern Kaduna, I appreciate His Excellency, Governor Uba Sani, for this historic gesture. Our people will long remember it," Katung said.

He further stressed the growing federal presence in the district, citing the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, which includes plans for a College of Medicine to be located in Manchok. These developments, he noted, signify a steady trajectory of growth for the region.

In the agricultural sector, the Senator revealed that the Federal Government, in partnership with the Kaduna State Government, has finalized arrangements to boost ginger production and processing in Kachia Local Government Area. With an investment valued at over ₦40 billion—of which the Kaduna State Government has already committed ₦20 billion—the project is expected to become the largest ginger processing hub in Africa upon completion.

"This initiative will undoubtedly create jobs and significantly stimulate the economy of the Southern Kaduna Senatorial District," Katung remarked.

Reflecting on these milestones, Senator Katung attributed the successes to strategic collaboration with the administration of Governor Uba Sani, noting that the partnership remains driven by the collective interest of the people, particularly those in rural communities.
