Bokkos LGA Halts All Mining, Imposes Curfew After Deadly Militia Attacks

In response to a series of deadly assaults on mining sites, the Chairman of Bokkos Local Government Area in Plateau State, Amalau Samuel Amalau, has ordered the immediate suspension of all mining operations within the council area.

The directive, issued on Sunday, February 1, 2026, halts both licensed and illicit mining activities, with a particular focus on the volatile Tenti and Mandar districts. The order follows recent attacks in these areas, where gunmen—widely suspected to be Fulani militias—reportedly killed several youths.

Chairman Amalau stated that the decision resulted from urgent consultations with security agencies and community stakeholders, emphasizing that protecting lives and property must take precedence.

“Continued mining operations under these conditions would further endanger our people and aggravate the already fragile security situation,” he explained in a personally signed statement.

Alongside the mining suspension, a daily curfew from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. has been imposed across Tenti and Mandar districts and their environs. The measure is intended to bolster security patrols and aid operatives in restoring order.

Amalau appealed for strict compliance from residents, miners, business owners, and visitors, urging calm and cooperation as authorities work to stabilize the region.
