SOKAPU Leader Visits Scene of Kaduna Church Abduction, Demands Immediate Action for 166 Captives

The Southern Kaduna People’s Union (SOKAPU) has condemned in strong terms the mass abduction of worshippers at a church in Kurmin Wali, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

SOKAPU’s National President, Engr. Samuel Kato Tabara, visited the distressed community on Tuesday, January 21, 2026, following the attack which occurred last Sunday. Preliminary reports indicate that no fewer than 166 villagers were kidnapped during the service by armed assailants.

Describing the incident as "evil, barbaric, and completely unacceptable," Engr. Tabara stated that such violence severely undermines peace and coexistence in the region. He called on federal and state authorities to take urgent, decisive steps to secure the immediate and safe release of all captives.

While acknowledging the Kaduna State Governor's prompt response and commitment to peace, the SOKAPU President pressed for a significant intensification of security measures. Key recommendations include the construction of access roads and the establishment of permanent police outposts in Kurmin Wali and neighboring communities to deter future attacks.

The union reiterated its longstanding call for a shift to proactive, intelligence-based security strategies and sustainable interventions to halt the cycle of violence, kidnapping, and displacement plaguing rural areas in Southern Kaduna.

SOKAPU affirmed its solidarity with the Kurmin Wali community and renewed its demand for justice and lasting safety for all affected residents.
