Jema'a Council Sponsors WAEC Fees for 250 Students, Chair Says Education "A Right, Not a Favor"

The Executive Chairman of Jema'a Local Government, Hon. Peter Tanko Dogara, has launched a sponsorship scheme covering West African Examination Council (WAEC) fees for 250 students within the area.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony on Thursday at the Government Girls Secondary School, Kafanchan, Chairman Dogara stated that providing education is a fundamental government responsibility, not a privilege. He said the initiative is designed to relieve parents of financial burdens and ensure equitable access to educational opportunities

Under the scheme, each of the 250 selected students will receive ₦35,000 to cover their examination fees. The program specifically targets less privileged students, orphans, and those with strong academic records.

Dogara commended Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, and parents for their support of education, urging the beneficiaries to dedicate themselves to their studies.

In his remarks, the Kaduna State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Comrade Yunana Barde, praised the local government's initiative. He reiterated the state government's commitment to enacting people-oriented policies that drive grassroots development.

The Chairman of the Scholarship Committee, Mr. Emmanuel Utung, explained that beneficiaries were chosen through a judicious process based on criteria including economic hardship, orphan status, and academic merit. He pledged the council’s continued commitment to improving education in the area

The Education Secretary, Mr. Tyen Dogara Audu, applauded the chairman’s educational focus and the state governor’s alignment with the sector.

Support also came from APC stakeholder Alhaji Ali Fadi, who commended Dogara's leadership, and Mr. Emmanuel Badau, a representative of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

On behalf of the beneficiaries, student Benedicta Boniface thanked the council for the support and promised a dedicated effort in their studies.
