Nationwide Push for Digital Growth: Minister Urges States and Local Councils to Embrace Tech

Jos plateau state - The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, has called on state governments and local council chairmen across Nigeria to fully embrace technology and innovation as drivers of digital development.

Speaking in Jos at the opening of the 13th Regular Meeting of the National Council on Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, the Minister emphasized that while the future is digital, it must also be inclusive and sustainable. He was represented at the event by the Permanent Secretary, Engr. Nadungu Gagare.

Dr. Tijani stated that sustainable growth in the digital age depends on three key factors: public trust in digital platforms, support for home-grown innovation, and strong regulatory frameworks. While acknowledging existing challenges in achieving inclusive digital transformation, he expressed confidence that they could be overcome through bold policies, sustained investment, and strengthened partnerships.

The meeting was officially declared open by the Plateau State Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Cletus Bako Shurkuk, who urged all participants to engage deeply and share ideas that would strengthen innovation across the nation.

Dr. Shurkuk highlighted Plateau State’s own progress in expanding broadband connectivity, improving ICT infrastructure, supporting tech hubs, and building digital skills among civil servants, youths, and entrepreneurs. He reiterated the state government’s belief that innovation is a key driver of inclusive growth, job creation, and economic prosperity.

Delegates from all 36 states, officials of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, and representatives from security agencies are attending the five-day council meeting.
