Nasarawa North Group Calls for 2027 Governorship Zoning in the Name of Equity

A political group, the Nasarawa North Political Consultative Forum (NNPCF), has called on all political parties to zone their governorship tickets to Nasarawa North Senatorial District for the 2027 elections, citing principles of fairness and rotational equity.

The appeal was contained in a communique signed by the Forum’s Convener, Mr. John Danboyi, and Co-convener, Salihu Ahmed-Alizaga, and issued to journalists on Tuesday in Lafia.

The Forum stated that the request was made in the overall interest of the people of the area and to preserve political balance within the state. While acknowledging that the current governor hails from Nasarawa North, the group argued that the district was the last to produce a governor since 1999, following previous tenures from the Nasarawa West and South senatorial zones.

"This position is premised on the fact that Nasarawa North Senatorial District was the last to be considered in the political cycle spanning from 1999 to 2027," the communique explained.

It further stated, "If all the major political parties zone their governorship tickets to Nasarawa North Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections, it would uphold and promote unity and harmonious development of our dear state."

The group encouraged politicians and political actors from the zone to align their ambitions with this collective stance for unity. It also urged leaders from Nasarawa North to engage leaders and well-wishers from the state’s other two zones to build consensus for beginning a new cycle of zoning. (NAN)
