Nasarawa Allocates Largest Share of 2026 Budget to Infrastructure, Commissioner Says

The Nasarawa State Government has prioritized infrastructure development in its 2026 budget, allocating a landmark N157.87 billion to the sector the highest single allocation to accelerate the state's growth.

Hajia Munira Abdullahi, the State Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Planning, announced that this allocation constitutes 26.76 per cent of the total N545.2 billion budget signed into law by Governor Abdullahi Sule. She presented the budget breakdown on Tuesday in Lafia.

A significant portion of the infrastructure fund,over N30 billion, is earmarked for the construction of four flyovers and four underpasses in high-traffic areas: Akwanga, Keffi, and Mararaba within Karu Local Government Area. The administration has vowed to ensure the timely completion of all ongoing capital projects to prevent abandonment.

· Agriculture & Water Resources: N31.95 billion

Strategic Focus on Security and Agriculture

Commissioner Abdullahi stated that boosting security and governance remains a core goal to attract and sustain business investment.In agriculture, the government plans to continue supporting farmers with essential inputs and market-driven interventions to increase yields and ensure food security for the state and the nation.

Reiterating the government’s focus on accountability,Abdullahi said, “The ministry will rigorously monitor and track the implementation of all projects, programmes and policies outlined in the budget.”

Governor Abdullahi Sule had signed the 2026 appropriation bill into law on Monday, following its passage by the State House of Assembly. (NAN)
