NUC Approves 6 New Academic programs For PLASU

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved six new academic programs for Plateau State University Bokkos (PLASU), marking a significant milestone in the university's efforts to expand its academic offerings.

The approval includes new programs in Medical Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Statistics, and Religious Studies, as well as the endorsement of professional bodies for the university's Law and Nursing Sciences programs.

Professor Shedrack Gaya Best, the Acting Vice Chancellor and Chairman of the Senate, announced the approval during the 92nd Regular meeting of the Senate on January 10, 2025. He credited the achievement to the unwavering support and commitment of the State Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, to the university's progress.

The NUC approval follows resource verification visits to assess the university's preparedness. Additionally, the Council of Legal Education and Nursing Council have formally approved the newly established Law and Nursing Science programs.

Professor Best expressed gratitude to the regulatory authorities for supporting the state government's efforts to promote learning at PLASU. He also pledged the management's commitment to staff welfare for optimal productivity.

The university is working to implement the new national minimum wage for staff, although the process has been delayed. The management is negotiating with state officials to resolve the issue.

In other developments, the senate received reports on the resumption of academic activities after the Christmas and New Year breaks. Efforts to improve campus security are also underway.
