About 70 percent of Plateau State Excluded from Economic growth due to power outage

Senator Simon Bako Lalong, representing Plateau South Senatorial District, has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the power sector's continuous neglect of Plateau South and Central Senatorial Districts. Despite numerous efforts and promises, these areas remain without electricity, hindering economic growth and excluding about 70% of the state from development opportunities.

During the budget defense by the Minister of Power at the Senate, Senator Lalong emphasized the frustrating situation and appealed to the Minister, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, to take immediate action to address the long-standing issue. He highlighted his previous efforts as Governor of Plateau State to connect the two senatorial districts to the national grid, including paying compensation to landowners and relocating properties.

Senator Lalong assured that the Senate will prioritize funding and oversight to ensure the completion of the project, unlocking economic opportunities for the agrarian and productive communities. Additionally, he stressed the importance of proper funding for the Judiciary and sustaining its independence during the budget defense of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters.
