Northern Christian Leaders Hold National Prayer Rally in Abuja, Urge Citizens to Seek Divine Intervention for 2027 Polls

The Northern Christian Religious Leaders Assembly (NOCRELA) has rallied Christians across Nigeria to prioritize prayer as a foundational tool for national healing, peace, and stability, especially as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.

At a National Day of Prayer held Thursday at the National Christian Centre in Abuja, NOCRELA National Chairman, Archbishop JohnPraise Daniel, emphasized that Nigeria’s mounting challenges from insecurity to economic distress demand a unified spiritual response. Similar prayer gatherings took place simultaneously across the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory.

“We are at a crossroads as a nation,” Archbishop Daniel said. “Only through sustained, fervent prayer can we expect to see breakthroughs in peace and development. Christians must not relent in crying out to God for our land.”

He also called on political and traditional rulers to embrace justice, equity, and transparency, noting that “prayer without righteous leadership is incomplete. Leaders must be accountable and act in the fear of God if we are to experience true peace.”

Delivering a brief exhortation, Rev. Stephen Adegbite, Executive Secretary of the National Christian Pilgrims Commission (NCPC), described the prayer initiative as both timely and patriotic. He encouraged Nigerians to remain hopeful despite prevailing difficulties and urged faith communities to sustain such platforms for ongoing spiritual engagement with national affairs.

The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, who was represented at the event, commended the Church for its intercessory role and its courage in speaking truth to authority. He appealed for continued prayers for peace and effective governance across the country.

In his remarks, NOCRELA National Secretary, Rev. Dr. Simon Dolly, advised religious leaders to be cautious with their words and to consistently promote messages of unity and tolerance. He described Christians and Muslims as mutual guardians of each other’s well-being and called for responsible management of Nigeria’s ethnic and religious diversity.

The event drew a cross-section of Christian leaders and congregants from various denominations. Special prayers were offered for national security, economic recovery, ethical governance, and a violence-free electoral process in 2027.

NOCRELA, which serves as a coalition of Christian leaders from the 19 northern states and the FCT, has in recent years intensified advocacy for peaceful coexistence and civic responsibility—using prayer dialogues, community engagement, and moral persuasion as vehicles for nation-building.

With rising political tensions and socioeconomic pressures shaping public discourse ahead of the next general elections, faith-based groups like NOCRELA are increasingly framing prayer and moral reawakening as essential pillars for a stable and prosperous Nigeria.
