KASSOBA Vows to Sustain Investment in Digital Learning, Infrastructure at Government College Kagoro

The President of the Kagoro Secondary School Old Boys Association (KASSOBA), Dr. Mark Anthony, has reaffirmed the association's unwavering commitment to investing in innovative solutions aimed at enhancing academic excellence and student development at Government College Kagoro.

Dr. Anthony made this declaration during the school's 2026 Annual Speech and Prize Giving Day, which took place during the week at the college premises.

Speaking to an audience of students, teachers, and distinguished guests, the KASSOBA President emphasized that the association remains deeply dedicated to preserving the institution's legacy while equipping future generations with the tools needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

"On behalf of KASSOBA, I congratulate the graduating students, especially those who excelled and received prizes," Dr. Anthony said. "Your dedication, late nights, and focus have paid off. However, winning a prize is not the final destination; it is a call to keep pushing the boundaries of your potential."

He offered words of encouragement to students who did not receive awards, urging them to view the outcome as motivation rather than discouragement. "Setbacks are merely stepping stones to greater heights of achievement," he added.

Reflecting on the school's enduring values, Dr. Anthony reminded the students that academic success alone does not define a person. "As old boys, we once sat exactly where you are sitting. We know the traditions, the values, and the rigorous standards that this great institution instills. But the most important lesson we learned within these walls goes far beyond academic grades—it is about character in a world driven by technology," he said.

The KASSOBA President outlined some of the association's recent interventions aimed at improving the school's learning environment. According to him, the association repaired the school chapel's roof following damage sustained last year. Additionally, KASSOBA renovated several classrooms and installed solar power systems to create a more conducive atmosphere for both teaching and learning.

Dr. Anthony specifically acknowledged the contributions of a fellow KASSOBA member, Major General Henry Yanet, who spearheaded the classroom renovation project.

He also extended appreciation to the school's principal, teachers, and other stakeholders for their dedication. "Our teachers, thank you for your patience, guidance, and tireless commitment to shaping these young minds into the future leaders of our nation," he concluded.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the occasion, Mr. Livinus Ashio, described Government College Kagoro—formerly known as Kagoro Secondary School—as an institution that has consistently stood for excellence with discipline. He noted that many alumni have gone on to serve Nigeria with distinction across various fields, including medicine, engineering, military service, teaching, and leadership.

Delivering the guest lecture on the topic, "The Effects of the Internet on the Youth," Professor Benjamin Kumai Gugong observed that the world has evolved from a global village to a global hamlet in terms of digital connectivity.

He traced the popularization of the internet to the introduction of the World Wide Web in 1990, describing it as the greatest technological advancement of the 21st century. According to Professor Gugong, the internet has fundamentally transformed the way people learn, communicate, conduct business, seek entertainment, and solve problems.

The Professor highlighted both the positive and negative impacts of the internet on young people, cautioning students to exercise discretion in their online activities. "The internet is a powerful tool—like a knife that can be used to prepare food or cause harm," he warned.

Earlier in his address, the Principal of the school, Mr. Danladi Ibrahim Musa, emphasized that Speech and Prize Giving Day transcends the mere distribution of books, medals, and trophies. "It is a reminder that character matters," he said

Congratulating the prize winners, the Principal noted that their success proves that "discipline plus study and prayers equals good results." He also expressed gratitude to KASSOBA for its continued support in addressing some of the challenges confronting the school.

The Parents Teachers Association (PTA) Chairman, Evangelist Fari B. Adamu, in his remarks, stated that parents and educators share a common vision to provide a nurturing environment where every child can thrive. He called for sustained collaboration between parents, teachers, and the alumni association to ensure the school's continued growth 

Also speaking at the event, the Chief of Kagoro, Mr. Ufuwai Bonet, expressed pride in the school's outstanding performance in producing distinguished men and women over the years.

He advised the graduating class to recognize that they are now transitioning to a new phase of their lives and urged them to avoid all tendencies that could corrupt their opportunities. "The foundation you have received here will serve you well if you remain disciplined and focused," he said.
