Senator Katung Urges Unity, Peace as Muslims Begin New Hijrah Year 1448 AH

Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, representing Kaduna South Senatorial Zone, has extended warm felicitations to the Muslim Ummah across Kaduna South, Kaduna State, Nigeria, and the global Islamic community on the occasion of the new Islamic year, 1448 After Hijrah (AH), and the commencement of the sacred month of Muharram.

In a statement released today through his Special Adviser on Religious Affairs (Islamic Matters), Alhaji Iliyasu Musa, the Senator described the Hijrah of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) from Makkah to Madinah as one of the most significant turning points in Islamic history—a journey that embodies faith, sacrifice, perseverance, unity, and the triumph of hope over adversity.

"As we usher in this new Islamic year, we are called to renew our dedication to the principles of peace, justice, compassion, and service to humanity," Senator Katung stated.

He emphasized that this sacred period presents an opportunity for self-reflection, spiritual rejuvenation, and a strengthened resolve to foster peaceful coexistence and harmonious relationships among people of diverse faiths and backgrounds. "It is also a time to offer prayers for the continued peace, progress, and prosperity of our communities, Kaduna State, and our beloved nation, Nigeria," he added.

The Senator encouraged Muslim faithful to maximize the spiritual blessings of Muharram by engaging in acts of worship, charity, kindness, and prayers for leaders and the nation.

"Let us continue to promote tolerance, mutual respect, and understanding—values that are indispensable for sustainable development and national unity," he admonished.

Reaffirming his commitment to the welfare and development of the people of Kaduna South Senatorial District, Senator Katung pledged to sustain support for initiatives that foster peace, social justice, youth empowerment, education, and inclusive growth, regardless of religious or ethnic affiliations.

As the faithful welcome the New Hijrah Year, the Senator prayed that Almighty Allah (SWT) grants everyone abundant blessings, good health, divine protection, wisdom, and the fortitude to overcome all challenges. He also prayed for the acceptance of all acts of worship, forgiveness of shortcomings, and for the new Islamic year to usher in peace, security, progress, and prosperity for all.
