Caleb Mutfwang Wins Plateau APC Governorship Ticket Ahead of 2027 Polls

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State has declared Caleb Mutfwang as the winner of its governorship primary election ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Chairman of the APC Governorship Primary Election Committee, Fedelis Mnyim, announced the results after the collation of votes from across the 17 local government areas of the state at the party's secretariat on Friday night.

Mnyim disclosed that a total of 239,405 votes were cast during the exercise. According to him, retired Chief John Yilchini scored 3,070 votes, while Mutfwang secured 233,335 votes to emerge victorious.

“Caleb Mutfwang satisfied the requirements of the APC constitution and guidelines by securing the highest number of lawful votes cast,” Mnyim declared. He subsequently announced Mutfwang as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 elections.

Speaking further on the conduct of the State House of Assembly primaries, Mnyim described the exercise as peaceful, transparent, and credible.

“Pursuant to the Electoral Act, the APC Constitution, and the party guidelines, the conduct of the State House of Assembly primary elections and announcement of results are done at the constituency level and not at the state level,” he said.

He explained that the elections were conducted across council wards serving as voting points, while results were first announced at the ward level before being moved to constituency collation centres for final declaration.

Mnyim added that all candidates who emerged from the primaries have become the official APC flag bearers for the 2027 general elections. He urged victorious candidates to work towards uniting party members and ensuring victory for the APC in the next elections.

The APC official also appealed to aspirants who lost in the primaries to accept the outcome and support the party. “We call on all aspirants to respect the supremacy of the party and rally behind the successful candidates for the overall success of the APC,” he stated.

Mnyim commended party members for their participation in the exercise and praised security agencies as well as members of the electoral committee for ensuring a smooth process.
