Miango youth established palliative farms, rebuilt damaged communities

Miango youth under the umbrella of the Miango Youth Development Association (MYDA), have in the last six years rebuilt several communities destroyed by bandit attacks and also established palliative farms to serve as succour to victims.

This was disclosed on Sunday in Miango, Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State, by the outgone chairman of the association, Hon. Nuhu Yakubu, in his handover note delivered during the inauguration ceremony of the new exco of the association. According to the outgone chairmangoo, the association has also put priority on security and the promotion of peace in the community.

“Security was one of our top priorities. During our tenure, we worked closely with community leaders and security agencies to improve safety. Efforts were made to promote peace, reduce conflict, and protect lives and property. Though challenges remain, we made important progress in building awareness and community cooperation.

“We made efforts to support the rebuilding of communities affected by attacks, especially in Nkiendowro, Ancha, Hukke and Kpatenvie Jebbu), Kpachudu  Support included mobilizing resources, encouraging unity, and helping displaced persons return and rebuild their homes and lives.

“To support food supply and help displaced families, we established palliative farms in Rotsu,  Hukke and Kpachudu. These farms helped provide food and created opportunities for community members to engage in farming activities,” he disclosed.

According to Yakubu, the association also organized annual football tournaments to promote peace and unity, encouraged political participation by helping displaced communities register for their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), created employment opportunities and also established business enterprises to promote business opportunities, generate income, and support youth empowerment.

Other achievements include the organization of Independent Day celebrations every year for both primary and secondary schools, the establishment of a structured membership database, among several others. 

The APC House of Assembly hopeful for Rukuba/Irigwe State Constituency, also mentioned the challenges encountered to include; the frequent attacks and fear of violence, laziness and indiscipline by the youth, incessant farm destruction, poor school enrollment and girl child education, night parties and hard drugs abuse among the youth.

Yakubu therefore encouraged the new leadership to build “on these achievements and continue working for unity, peace, and development” and also pledged to continue supporting the association whenever needed.

In his inaugural speech after being sworn in, the newly elected Chairman of the association, Sunday Gado Dillas, appreciated the outgoing leadership for “their sacrifices, commitment, and contributions to the growth of the association” saying “your efforts have laid a strong foundation upon which we shall build. We promise to sustain your achievements and improve where necessary”. He stated that the new administration will focus on youth empowerment, community development, education among others. He therefore called on every youth to be actively involved. “Your ideas, your energy, and your cooperation are essential for success,” he stated.

Other exco members were administered oath of office by the association's Legal Adviser, Barrister Tony Chattalas. They are; Rochas Isaiah Nkie-Vice Chairman, Keffas Ahmadu- Secretary, Sunday Barry Mose- Assistant Secretary, Barry Bobo Sunday-Financial Secretary, Rose Usman-Treasurer. Others are; Agara Weyi- Publicity Secretary, Emmanuel John Kure-Assistant Publicity Secretary, Bari Moses John-Welfare Officer, Abednego Sajee Williams- Organizing Secretary, Danjuma John Telle- Director of Socials, Amuntu Giwa Tegwi- Director of Sport, Friday James Kunde- Provost Marshal.
