League of Friends Visits DASH Akwanga, Pledges Support as Model Hospital Transitions to Specialist Facility

The League of Friends of the former Model Hospital Akwanga has paid a familiarisation visit to the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH), Akwanga, Dr. Esala E. Abene.

The League of Friends is a volunteer-driven, non-governmental association dedicated to improving healthcare delivery by acting as a bridge between the community and the health institution.

Receiving the association, the CMD commended them for the visit and their encouragement. He acknowledged their supportive role and advocacy from the days of the Model Hospital to its present transition to a Specialist Hospital.

“By this familiarisation visit, we now formally conclude that you are the League of Friends of Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital Akwanga,” Dr. Abene said, urging them to sustain their support for collective progress.

Dr. Abene assured the League that the hospital is doing everything possible to ensure specialist services are adequately and effectively provided to the people.

On the issue of employment of medical personnel, the CMD disclosed that there will be no compromise on professionalism. “This is a hospital where lives are saved. We will recruit only competent, credible, and qualified hands to entrench excellence and build a lasting legacy,” he stated.

Earlier, the Chairman of the League of Friends, Bakyu Yusuf Isa, congratulated the CMD on his appointment and on the relocation to the temporary facility, which paved the way for the construction and expansion of the former Model Hospital Akwanga into a specialist hospital. He said their work is to support hospital management in achieving their mission and vision through advocacy and direct support to patients.

He noted that their visit was to formalise their relationship with the management staff and to state their role in the hospital.

The District Head of Akwanga, Chief Anthony Yamusa, who is also an active member of the association, called on the management to ensure that only qualified people are employed for effective health delivery.

On her part, the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee (C-MAC), Dr. Rimini Kefas Manchunga, appreciated the association and prayed for continued cooperation and collaboration.
