NPFL: Nasarawa Utd trash Rivers Utd 4:1 in Lafia


The Nasarawa United Football Club on Monday in a rescheduled matchday 31st fixture of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) trashed Rivers United Football Club 4:1.

The match originally scheduled for Sunday, March 22 was rescheduled for Monday, March 23 due to so many engagements the Rivers site had recently. 

The match played at the Lafia Township Stadium, the home ground for the Nasarawa site saw the host striking early to seize control. of the game. 

Ngei Oluka-Efor, Abubakar Abdullahi, Chimezie Victor and Jofrank Istifanus

scored in the three, six, 15 and 58 minutes of the match respectively to enable the host to secure all the points of the game.


Rivers United pulled one back through Taiwo Abdulrafiu in the 24th minute, but the visitors could not mount a comeback as solid miners dominated the match till the end of the regulation time. 

With this massive win, Nasarawa site moved up to third on the league table with 50 points, while  Rivers Utd remained second on the table with 52 points.

In a post-match interview, the Technical Adviser of Nasarawa Utd, Mbwas Mangut, praised his team's performance, highlighting their pressure and defensive solidity. 

Mangut appreciated his boys for achieving the highest scoreline in their current campaign and it is against a top site in the league.

He therefore, said that with only seven matches left in the current season, his team would continue to take every game seriously to get more points in order to be in contention of winning the league at the end. (NAN).
