Boys Brigade Nigeria Confers Grand Patron Title on Jema'a LG Chairman

By: Abubakar Labaran

The Boys' Brigade Nigeria has conferred the title of Grand Patron of its Jema'a Council Battalion on the Chairman of Jema'a Local Government Area, Hon. Peter Tanko Dogara, presenting him with a flag of honour during a ceremony on Tuesday.

The brief but colourful event took place at the Jema'a Local Government Council chamber in Kafanchan.

While receiving the flag, Hon. Tanko Dogara described the Boys' Brigade as a responsible faith-based organization and a critical stakeholder in peace-building and national development, particularly praising their role in moulding youths into disciplined and responsible citizens.

Lamenting the challenges of moral decadence among the youth and the prevailing climate of general insecurity affecting national growth, the Chairman stated that the country, more than ever, needs patriotic young men and women deeply committed to selfless community service. He emphasized the need for promoting enduring peaceful relations among the diverse communities across the nation.

He, therefore, encouraged the Boys' Brigade Nigeria, especially the Jema'a Council Battalion, to remain true to their founding objectives. This includes shaping the lives of people, particularly the youth, through the teaching of good Christian values such as selfless leadership, inter-religious harmony, and effective community service.

Hon. Dogara thanked the Jema'a Council Battalion for considering him worthy of the position and assured them that his council would continue to initiate policies and programs aimed at promoting youth development and community transformation.

In their remarks, the Vice President of the Boys' Brigade Nigeria (Southern Zone), Hon. Andrew Sunday Abba, and the Battalion Chaplain, Reverend Emmanuel Ambi (represented by the Vice Chairman of ECWA DCC Kafanchan, Reverend Tanimu Gara), praised the Chairman's people-centred policies. They noted that these policies are exemplified by the numerous developmental projects being witnessed across communities in the local government and urged him to do more.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Jema'a Council Battalion, Mr. Paul Joshua, stated that the presentation of the flag of honour and the conferment of the Grand Patron title were in recognition of Hon. Dogara's sincere service. He described it as a symbol of a forged partnership and shared responsibility between the Boys' Brigade and the Jema'a Local Government Council, specifically in the areas of peace-building, youth empowerment, and rural development.

He congratulated the Chairman on the honour and informed him that accepting the responsibility means upholding the ideals and values of the Boys' Brigade, which he listed as self-discipline, patriotism, and selfless service to humanity.

The high point of the event was the official declaration of Hon. Peter Tanko Dogara as the Grand Patron of the Boys' Brigade Nigeria, Jema'a Council Battalion.
