TRCN Registration Now Mandatory for School Accreditation, Says Commissioner

The Masarawa state Commissioner for Education, Dr. John Mamman, has announced that teacher registration with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) is now a compulsory requirement for school accreditation across all levels.

Dr. Mamman made the declaration on Wednesday while convening a high-level meeting of education sector stakeholders at the Ministry of Education Conference Hall. The gathering was called to deliberate on a recent Federal Ministry of Education circular mandating the new accreditation standard.

The meeting included representatives from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), the State Teachers Service Commission (TSC), the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), the Association of Private School Owners of Nigeria (APSON), the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPPS), the Parents-Teachers Association (PTA), Chief Evaluation Officers, and ministry officials.

Addressing the stakeholders, Dr. Mamman emphasized that the directive aims to strengthen professionalism and elevate the quality of teaching and learning nationwide.

“This requirement applies to all teachers in primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions, encompassing both public and private schools,” he stated. “Achieving full compliance is a collective responsibility crucial for advancing our educational standards.”

Following deliberations, stakeholders resolved to establish an implementation committee chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education. The committee is tasked with fine-tuning modalities to ensure all unregistered teachers complete their TRCN registration promptly. It has been given one week to submit its report.
