Senator Dachungyang Points to Empowerment, Security, and Bills as Key Achievements in Plateau North

Senator Pam Mwadkon Dachungyang has highlighted empowerment programs, security interventions, and legislative work as hallmarks of his service to Plateau North, reaffirming his commitment to peace, development, and effective representation.

Addressing journalists at the NUJ Press Centre in Jos on Thursday, the senator described his election in February 2024 as “God’s possible and practical intervention” and pledged to continue serving the people of Barkin Ladi, Bassa, Jos East, Jos North, Jos South, and Riyom local government areas.

His agenda, he explained, rests on five pillars: practical representation and community engagement, women and youth empowerment, functional education and critical sector placement, peace and security, and legislative duties.

Dachungyang recalled extensive thank-you tours and consultations with youth groups, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community associations, which he said helped sustain fragile peace in the zone.

Through zonal intervention and supplementary budget provisions, he reported empowering over 900 women and youths with agricultural training, starter packs, cash support, fertilizer, and special-purpose tricycles. He also facilitated the completion of a skills acquisition centre in Riyom and secured federal employment for several constituents.

In education, the senator paid WAEC fees for secondary school students, covered tuition for Plateau North students at the Maritime Academy, Oron, and supported others at the Aviation College in Zaria. He also sponsored national cycling and badminton competitions hosted in Plateau State.

Across agriculture, health, and power sectors, Dachungyang said he consistently provided farmers with inputs, attracted health interventions in the 2025 budget, and facilitated transformers and solar street lights—with Riyom already benefiting.

On security, he described the situation in Plateau North as “disturbing,” noting that he has engaged stakeholders discreetly, reported attacks to the National Assembly, and supported calls for a National Security Summit. He warned perpetrators to cease violence and vowed to work with Governor Caleb Mutfwang to restore peace and revive tourism.

Legislatively, Dachungyang participated actively in the 2025 budget process and has sponsored two bills: one to upgrade the National Veterinary Research Institute in Vom to a federal university, and another to elevate Plateau State Polytechnic, Barkin Ladi, to a federal university.

He also confirmed his appointment as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Tourism and listed his membership on other key committees, assuring constituents of his focus on delivering democratic dividends.

The senator ended on an optimistic note, calling for unity and prayers for lasting peace and development in Plateau North.
