Plateau Governor Caleb Mutfwang Defects to APC, Vows to Heal Political Divides

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has formally joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), proclaiming the move as a pivotal step toward unity and renewed hope for the state.

The governor declared his membership during a ceremony at the Little Rayfield Government House in Jos, attended by a crowd of party leaders, government officials, and supporters. He stated that his decision came after extensive prayer, consultation, and reflection.

“This is a divine moment for Plateau,” Mutfwang said. “God has brought former rivals together to mend long-standing divisions.”

He acknowledged the support of predecessors, members of the Federal Executive Council, the National and State Assemblies, and political leaders across party lines, especially during challenging periods of extended elections and legal contests.

Reflecting on years of political polarization in the state, the governor expressed optimism that Plateau is now “seeing light at the end of the tunnel.” He reiterated his commitment to inclusive governance, emphasizing that those remaining in other parties “are not enemies, but brothers and partners in progress.”

Mutfwang also pledged loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Renewed Hope Agenda, asserting that his defection would amplify Plateau’s voice in national affairs and ensure the state’s active participation in key policy decisions.

He promised to foster a leadership style that includes elders, women, youth, and vulnerable groups, while bridging divides across religion, ethnicity, and political affiliation.

Earlier, Plateau APC Chairman, Hon. Rufus Bature, hailed the governor’s entry as “historic,” citing the book of Ecclesiastes: “To everything there is a time.” He formally presented Mutfwang with his APC membership card, conferring full rights and privileges under the party’s constitution.

The event concluded with calls for unity, grassroots mobilization, and a shared commitment to a peaceful and prosperous Plateau.

Among those present were Nasarawa State APC Chairman Dr. Aliyu Bello, former governors, National Assembly members, and numerous party stalwarts.
