Nigeria Deploys Space Tech in Crime Fight: NASRDA and EFCC Partner to Secure Nation's Space Sector

ABUJA – In a move to bolster national security and ensure accountability within Nigeria’s rapidly growing space sector, the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) has entered a strategic partnership with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The Director-General of NASRDA, Dr. Matthew Adepoju, highlighted the critical role of geospatial intelligence in crime prevention during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja.

In a statement issued by NASRDA’s Director of Media and Corporate Communications, Dr. Felix Ale, Adepoju described the partnership as a milestone for justice and accountability. He explained that the collaboration aims to strengthen the enforcement of national space regulations, improve spectrum management, and enhance oversight across Nigeria’s expanding space ecosystem.

“This agreement will ensure both local and international operators in Nigeria’s space sector comply fully with our laws and regulatory frameworks,” Adepoju stated.

He also identified illegal mining as a significant driver of insecurity and reaffirmed NASRDA’s commitment to regulating all segments of the space industry.

Praising the EFCC’s leadership under Chairman Olanipekun Olukoyede, Adepoju expressed confidence that the Commission’s proven track record makes it an ideal partner. NASRDA will deploy advanced space and geospatial technologies to assist the EFCC in executing its mandate more effectively and in line with global standards.

The partnership marks the beginning of a new chapter for both agencies, promising stronger enforcement, improved national security, and a more transparent and compliant space sector for Nigeria.
