Gwong Heritage to Shine: 2026 Cultural Festival Set for March 7

The 2026 Gwong Cultural Festival will be held on Saturday, March 7, at the Gwong Development Area in the heart of Gwong Chiefdom.

In a statement released by the Secretary of the Central Planning Committee, Darius Yusuf (PhD), the committee announced that this year’s theme is “Celebrating Our Roots, Advancing Our Future: Preserving the Gwong Heritage.” The statement was issued on behalf of the Committee Chairman, Honourable Habila Yohanna, SSA to the Speaker of the National Assembly, Honourable Tajudeen Abbas.

The theme reflects the belief that the wisdom, values, and artistry handed down through generations serve as “the essential compass guiding our journey forward.”

The festival emerges from a collective desire to celebrate and share the unique identity and beauty of Gwong culture with neighbors and friends.

“For generations, the Gwong people have been custodians of a vibrant tapestry of traditions, arts, language, and values that have profoundly shaped our shared societal landscape,” the statement read.

“The Gwong Cultural Festival is more than an event; it is a bridge—connecting our venerable past to our vibrant present, linking generations as elders share wisdom with the youth, and fostering understanding between all communities in this region.”

This year’s celebrations will feature traditional music, cultural exhibitions, and parades, showcasing months of dedicated preparation by community volunteers and local authorities.

The committee extended a warm invitation to all: “Whether you are Gwong, a fellow citizen from another background, or a visitor from afar, you are welcome here to appreciate the unique threads that form our shared social fabric.”

Accessibility has also been prioritized. “We have ensured the festival is accessible to people with disabilities and special needs so everyone can participate fully in the festivities.”

The statement emphasized that celebrating Gwong culture reinforces the broader principle that diversity is a source of strength and beauty.

The committee expressed gratitude for the support received and pledged to deliver an event that is “authentic, inclusive, and unforgettable,” expressing confidence that the festival will become a cherished annual tradition for years to come.
