Students and Youth Groups Demand Repair of 30-Year Neglected Road to Kaduna State College of Education

The National Association of Nigerian Colleges of Education Students (NANCES) and the Nigeria Youth Mentorship and Entrepreneurship Forum (NYMEF) have issued a urgent appeal to governments to address the dilapidated road leading to the Kaduna State College of Education (KSCOE), Gidan Waya.

Speaking for the coalition, Comrade Ishaya Ezra highlighted that the road has been in a state of disrepair for over three decades. Ezra, who serves as the Executive CMC Chairman of NANCES Kaduna State axis and Secretary General of NYMEF Kaduna Chapter, is also a former SUG President of KSCOE Gidan Waya (2020-2021).

"As a product of Kaduna State College of Education Gidan Waya, I'm compelled to demand accountability from our leaders," stated Comrade Ishaya. "It's unacceptable that an institution producing thousands of teachers operates in such a poor environment."

He compared the situation to other state institutions, noting a stark disparity. "I've visited many state-owned colleges of education, and none are like ours. While institutions like Kaduna State University and Kaduna State Polytechnic have well-maintained roads, our college is left to languish in neglect."

He described the condition as a clear case of policy neglect and unequal resource distribution, which tarnishes Kaduna’s reputation as the "Center of Learning."

"As a former student leader, I've witnessed firsthand the devastating impact on students, staff, and the community—the dust, the accidents, and the health hazards. These are symptoms of a larger problem requiring immediate attention," he lamented.

The groups are calling on the Kaduna State Government, under Governor Senator Dr. Uba Sani, and Senator Barrister Sunday Marshall Katung, representing Southern Kaduna, to develop a comprehensive plan to construct and maintain the road. This, they argue, is essential to provide a conducive learning environment and equitable infrastructure.

"We will not be silenced or ignored. We will continue to raise our voices until our demands are met and our institution is treated with the respect it deserves," Comrade Ishaya concluded. "Together, let's join forces to build a better Kaduna State."
