Nasarawa, Investors Target 2027 Launch for 40MW Farin-Ruwa Hydropower Project

Lafia, Nasarawa state - Governor Abdullahi A. Sule of Nasarawa State has pledged full government support to expedite the launch of the 40-megawatt Farin-Ruwa Hydroelectric Power Project, targeting commissioning within the next two years.

The Governor gave the assurance on Wednesday, December 10th, 2025, while receiving a delegation from Farin-Ruwa Power Project Limited, led by its Chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Mustapha Bintube. The delegation, which included technicians and investment bankers, was on a strategic visit to the Government House in Lafia.

Governor Sule outlined a clear timeline for the project, stating that all necessary agreements would be finalized in the first quarter of 2026. "We will then look forward to about a year and a half for the commissioning," he said.

He emphasized the state's vested interest in developing the Farin-Ruwa area, citing his administration's construction of a tarred road to the waterfall and dam site to attract investment. "We have now tarred the road all the way to the dam," the Governor noted, adding that the Federal Government is concurrently working on expanding the dam itself.

"The Federal Government is already working on expanding the dam... which is why the Mangar community will be resettled," Governor Sule explained. He expressed enthusiasm that the planned 40MW capacity exceeded the state's initial 30MW estimate for the site. "You are the one now exceeding all expectations," he told the investors.

He instructed the state’s investment agency, NASIDA, to form a dedicated team to work with the project developers to ensure milestones are achieved. "Anywhere you feel we as a government can actually come in, we will be more than happy to do so," the Governor assured.

Earlier, Alhaji Mohammed Mustapha Bintube, the Pioneer MD/CEO of Jaiz Bank and Chairman of the project company, informed the Governor that the Federal Executive Council had granted formal approval for the hydropower facility. He stated that the concession agreement had been signed and all project accreditation processes had commenced.

"Our purpose is to pursue the origination, development, and operation of the Farin-Ruwa dam into a successful hydro-power project that will provide power not only to Nasarawa State but to the national grid," Bintube said.

He appealed to the state government to fast-track the relocation of the Mangar community ahead of the project's final feasibility report and agreement finalization in Q1 2026.

Bintube expressed confidence that Governor Sule would inaugurate the project. "We hope, Your Excellency, that during your tenure, you will be the first to switch on the light, by God's grace," he said
