Anglican Comminium Kwoi Diocese Blames Rampant Corruption for Failure to Protect Citizens

The Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Kwoi Diocese in Kaduna State, has stated that widespread corruption, especially in public life, has prevented the country from adequately protecting the lives and property of its citizens.

This declaration was made in a communiqué released after the diocese’s fifth synod, held over the weekend at All Saints Anglican Church, Ramindop, Kaduna State. The synod, themed “Be the Doer of the Word,” also asserted that corruption has denied Nigerians the benefits of democracy and hindered both the Church and society from fulfilling God’s purpose.

His Lordship, Rt. Reverend Paul Samuel Zamani, expressed deep concern in the communiqué that corrupt practices have become normalized in society. He urged that those found guilty must consistently face the full wrath of the law.

On the issue of insecurity, the synod directly challenged President Bola Tinubu to fulfill the government’s primary responsibility of securing lives and property. It also called on the President to implement measures to curb inter-religious and ethnic conflicts, particularly in Northern Nigeria, to allow legitimate activities to thrive.

Regarding elections, the synod advised the government to adhere to due diligence, with particular emphasis on improving the conduct of local government elections by State Independent Electoral Commissions (SIECs). It also cautioned the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to avoid any tendencies that would turn Nigeria into a one-party state.

Addressing the economy, the communiqué highlighted the rising poverty among citizens and called for a rethink of the new tax regime scheduled to begin in January 2026, urging policies that serve the public good.

On infrastructure, the church called on governments at all levels to address the decay of national and state roads. It made a special appeal to the Kaduna State Government to repair the deplorable Kwoi-Kafanchan, Gidan Waya-Badde, and Kafanchan township roads.

The synod  urged the Church to be “doers of God’s word” in all circumstances and to reach out to people as ambassadors of Christ.
