Muluku Inspects One Billion Naira Water Project to Boost Supply in MADA Corridor

The Commissioner for Water Resources and Rural Development, Hon. Mohamed Muluku, alongside the General Manager of the Nasarawa State Water Board, Dr. Kana Ahmad Abubakar, have inspected the ongoing construction of a new booster station in Garaku.

The project, awarded to Tombin Nigeria Limited, is designed to support the MADA Water Works in Gudi by enhancing water supply to the MADA corridor. The inspection also included a review of a related reservoir at the Government College, Keffi.

Addressing the press, Hon. Muluku applauded Governor Abdullahi A. Sule for his consistent support to the Ministry and the Water Board, particularly in providing essential consumables and chemicals. He expressed satisfaction with the progress of the work and urged the contractor to adhere strictly to construction ethics and comply with COREN guidelines. The Commissioner reassured the people of Nasarawa State of the government's commitment to providing safe, drinking water.

The General Manager of the Water Board, Dr. Ahmad Abubakar, stated that the over One Billion Naira contract was awarded to supplement the MADA Water Works and address artificial water losses in the corridor. He explained that the MADA plant was commissioned in 1995 and has not undergone a major turnaround maintenance in over 30 years.

"The water works were originally designed to serve 250,000 people," Dr. Abubakar said. "However, the area has experienced significant growth, now hosting the Nasarawa State University and other institutions in the Keffi axis, increasing the demand for water."

He confirmed that the contractor has already installed a KVA transformer and other necessary accessories. Upon completion, the booster station will extend water supply as far as the 177 Army Battalion.

The Executive Chairman of Kokona Local Government Area, Hon. Agbawu M. Agbawu, also present, expressed his profound appreciation to the Governor for citing the project in the area. He pledged the local government's full support and commitment to safeguarding Water Board lands against encroachment.
