Army-Backed Renovation Illuminates Government College Kagoro

Kagoro, Kaduna State – Government College Kagoro has been revitalized with a new solar power system and renovated facilities, thanks to a special intervention project initiated by the Nigerian Army and one of its distinguished alumni.

The project, which includes a 6.4 kv solar power system, refurbished classrooms, new desks and chairs, and improved grounds, was officially commissioned on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu.

Represented by the General Officer Commanding 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Abubakar Saddick Mohammed Wase, the Army Chief commended the people of Kaduna State for their support of security forces. He stated that the renovation was a Civil-Military Cooperation project aimed at improving the lives of citizens and supporting education.

The initiative was driven by Major General Henry Yanet, an old student of the school, who identified the dire need for infrastructure upgrades.

“Before the intervention, some buildings were collapsing, we had a severe lack of furniture, and the electricity supply was poor,” Major General Yanet explained. “We installed solar power to provide light 24 hours a day and gave the school a much-needed facelift to create a conducive learning environment.”

The project has been hailed as a transformative gesture. The Principal of the school, Mr. Danladi Musa, described the impact as immediate.

“The solar power installed now enables our children to read very well, unlike in the past when they had to improvise light,” Musa stated. “Major General Yanet has exemplified the highest standards of leadership and patriotism.”

Dr. Mark D. Anthony, President of the Kagoro Secondary School Old Boys Association (KASSOBA), expressed profound gratitude, noting that Yanet’s actions prove that alumni, known as "Iron Men," are "people of timber and calibre." He also used the opportunity to appeal for support to renovate the school's dilapidated Pullen Memorial Chapel, which has been unusable during the rainy season.

The community leadership also voiced their appreciation. The Chief of Kagoro, Mr. Ufuwai Bonet, commended Major General Yanet as a "worthy son of the soil," while the Executive Chairman of Kaura Local Government, Honourable Obadiah Sankey, praised the development brought to the education sector.

The event culminated with a donation of sports equipment from the State Commissioner of Sports and Youth, Mr. Benjamin Gugong, also an old boy, who urged the school to maintain the new facilities.

Speaking for the student body, Head Boy Mr. Bethel Irimiya Usman expressed profound gratitude, describing the renovation as an "unwavering commitment to the development of education in Kaduna State."
