Zamfara Governor Reinstates 301 Teachers, Approves 7 Months' Back Pay

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has approved the immediate reinstatement of 301 teachers who were mistakenly dismissed earlier this year.

The State Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Alhaji Wadatau Madawaki, announced this on Friday while addressing journalists in his office.

He revealed that the Governor has directed the ministry to pay the reinstated teachers seven months of salary arrears, covering the period from January to July.

Madawaki explained that the affected teachers were among 780 individuals initially identified as "ghost workers" by a state screening and verification committee.

"After intensive cross-checking, our ministry discovered that these 301 teachers were mistakenly included on the list of ghost workers," the Commissioner stated.

He said their reinstatement followed a formal appeal submitted to Governor Lawal by the ministry.

Commending the governor for his responsive leadership, Madawaki assured the public of the ministry's continued commitment to providing quality education for all children in the state.

"We remain dedicated to ensuring that only qualified teachers are engaged in the teaching process, which is essential for building a solid educational foundation for our children," he said.

The commissioner called on the reinstated teachers to redouble their efforts at their respective schools, emphasizing that the state government will not condone negligence.

"We are appealing to all reinstated teachers, as well as those already in service, to adhere to government policies, rededicate themselves to their duties, and serve the state with commitment for the benefit of future generations," Madawaki concluded.
