Southern Kaduna Shakes As Senator Katung Defect to APC Ahead of Mega Rally

In a seismic shift that is set to redefine the political landscape of Southern Kaduna, Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, representing Kaduna South, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The move, announced just days before a planned Southern Kaduna APC Mega Rally, sees the prominent lawmaker crossing over alongside Hon. Daniel Amos, the Member representing Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency.

In a statement titled “A New Chapter: A Message of Unity and Purpose,” Senator Katung described his defection as a “necessary and well-considered decision” reached after extensive consultations with constituents, associates, and family.

He stated that the move was driven by a “genuine desire to serve our people more effectively” and to ensure their voices are “heard and respected at the highest decision-making tables.”

Senator Katung pointed to the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani as a key motivation, praising their "renewed partnership" and "development-oriented leadership," which he said has shown a special interest in bringing "phenomenal development" to the region.

“The APC’s developmental footprints across Kaduna South reflect a sincere commitment to inclusion, equity, and progress,” Katung stated. “The era of marginalization is being replaced with purposeful governance, and I am joining to help consolidate and expand these gains.”

Appealing for understanding from any supporters who might be disappointed, the Senator called for unity and a continued focus on delivering a better future for the people of Kaduna South.

The defections of Senator Katung and Hon. Amos are expected to be the centerpiece of the Southern Kaduna APC Grand Mega Rally, scheduled for Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the Kafanchan New Township Stadium, an event that will now serve to solidify this major political realignment.
