Senator Katung Reaffirms Loyalty to PDP, Dismisses Defection Rumors as "Baseless Distraction"
By: Abubakar Labaran
The Media Office of Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, has officially denied rumors circulating on social media about the Senator defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement released by the Senator's Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Midat Joseph, the office clarified that Senator Katung remains a dedicated member of the PDP. “We wish to state unequivocally and for the record that, as of today, Senator Sunday Marshall Katung is a committed member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),” the statement read. “He was elected on the platform of the PDP and remains dedicated to upholding the mandate given to him by the good people of Kaduna South Senatorial District”.
The statement described the speculation as a "baseless distraction" aimed at diverting attention from the Senator's primary focus, which is on ensuring effective representation, pursuing legislative excellence, and attracting developmental projects to his constituency.
While acknowledging the dynamic nature of the political landscape, the statement stressed that any decision of such magnitude would not be left to hearsay. It assured that the Senator would communicate such a move officially and transparently, not through clandestine speculation.
The lawmaker’s office, therefore, urged the media, constituents, and the general public to disregard the unfounded speculations and continue to support Senator Katung in his drive to deliver dividends of democracy to Kaduna South.
