MWAN Brings Free Healthcare to 2,000 in Nasarawa Community

LAFIA – Over 2,000 residents of the Akurba community in Lafia, Nasarawa State, have received free medical services during a health outreach organized by the state chapter of the Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN).

Speaking at the event on Thursday, the State President of MWAN, Dr. Esther Audu, explained that the initiative aimed to provide testing, counselling, and treatment for vulnerable groups.

"Our mission is to reach out to women, children, and other vulnerable members of our community with essential healthcare services," Dr. Audu stated. "We are working to fill critical gaps and contribute towards building a healthier population."

She detailed that the services included medical consultations, health education, free drugs, diagnostic testing, eye care services, and cervical cancer screenings for women, accompanied by necessary counselling.

"For complex cases that require surgical intervention, patients will be referred to the Federal University Teaching Hospital Lafia on a first-come, first-served basis," she added.

Dr. Audu expressed her gratitude to the Nasarawa State Government, its agencies, the Federal University Teaching Hospital Lafia, and other partners in the medical sector for their support in ensuring the outreach's success.

She emphasized that the program was part of the association's corporate social responsibility to complement government efforts and improve the lives of community members.

On behalf of the beneficiaries, Zainab Mohammed and Abubakar Tinimu thanked the association for its support.

They shared that they were tested, counselled, and given medication free of charge, offering prayers for the organizers as a token of their appreciation. (NAN)
