Jay FM Journalists Missing Following COCIN Funeral Coverage, Management Fears Arrest

JOS, Nigeria – Two journalists from Jay 101.9 FM, Ruth Marcus and Keshia Jang, are missing and feared to be in the custody of security agents after covering a funeral service at the COCIN Headquarters in Jos on Thursday.

The journalists were assigned to report on the funeral of the late mother of the APC National Chairman. Their disappearance is allegedly linked to a video report posted by Jay FM depicting a confrontation between a cleric and security agents at the church premises.

The management of Jay 101.9 FM confirmed that all contact with Marcus and Jang was lost shortly after the event. While the exact circumstances are still being verified, preliminary reports suggest the duo was apprehended by security personnel.

"We are deeply concerned for the safety and well-being of our staff, Ruth Marcus and Keshia Jang," a statement from the station's management read. "Our immediate priority is to ascertain which security agency is holding them and to secure their immediate and unconditional release."

The management firmly stood by its editorial decision to report on the incident at the church. "Jay 101.9 FM reiterates its commitment to journalism and stands by its reporting on the event. We call on the relevant authorities to respect the freedom of the press and provide information on our journalists' whereabouts."

Efforts to locate the two reporters are ongoing as colleagues, family, and press freedom advocates await answers.
