Governor Sule Orders Probe into Nindama Killings, Moves to Fortify State Security

Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi A. Sule, has directed the Police and the Department of State Services (DSS) to immediately constitute a committee of inquiry to investigate the recent killing of seven people in Nindama village, Kokona Local Government Area.

The Governor issued the directive on Monday, October 13th, 2025, during an expanded state security council meeting in Lafia. He stated that the investigation must uncover the root cause of the violence to ensure a permanent resolution.

The meeting was convened to address rising security challenges, with Governor Sule warning of potential spillover effects from crises in other parts of the North-Central region.

Governor Sule expressed deep concern over the Nindama incident, which he said stemmed from an alleged land dispute between the Mada and Nizom communities

“A serious problem in Kokona local government area led to the death of several people at Nindama village,” the Governor stated. “The crisis is linked to an alleged misunderstanding over land, exacerbated by reports of unauthorized land sales. I have asked the Commissioner of Police and the Director of DSS to set up all necessary apparatus to investigate the root of this matter immediately.”

He emphasized that a professional and thorough investigation is crucial to resolving the impasse "once and for all."

Governor Sule highlighted that the meeting was largely necessitated by the need to fortify the state against external threats. He pointed to the emergence of the 'Wulo Wulo' splinter group of Boko Haram in the North-Central zone and the increasing activity of the 'Lakurawa' group in Kwara State as major concerns.

“We need to ensure we take certain steps to prevent these groups from entering our state,” he stressed.

The Governor also lamented the growing spate of kidnappings within and around Lafia and parts of Karu Local Government Area, assuring that strategic decisions would be taken to address the crime.

Commending the NDLEA for its recent busts of drug cartels, Governor Sule urged the agency to intensify its efforts. He then made a strong appeal against the arbitrary release of arrested criminals.

“Sometimes we arrest people, and because of their connections, individuals call for their bail. If we continue this, we jeopardize the lives of those who called for the arrest and will never see an end to these matters,” he expounded.

He proposed that anyone seeking bail should be required to appear in person at the offices of the security heads. “The moment you arrest some of those people making the calls once or twice, the pressure will reduce. That is the only way we can solve this problem.”

Governor Sule urged stakeholders who "truly love their children" to allow them to face the consequences of their crimes and receive necessary corrections, rather than rushing to secure their release.

Despite the challenges, the Governor noted that Nasarawa State continues to receive commendations as one of the most peaceful states in the country, crediting the ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity.

Following the opening remarks, the expanded security council meeting proceeded into a closed-door session for a detailed discussion of the raised issues.
