Governor Sule Champions Improved Welfare for Teachers, Vows Enhanced Support

Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, has declared that teachers across Nigeria deserve an improved welfare package and better working conditions to empower them in shaping the nation's future leaders.

The Governor made the statement on Monday during the opening ceremony of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) 7th Quadrennial State Delegates Conference held at the UBEC Model Smart School in Lafia.

Represented by the Executive Chairman of the Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB), Dr. Kassim Muh'd Kassim, Governor Sule acknowledged the issue of poor teacher remuneration. He reassured attendees that his administration is actively working to improve their welfare.

“The government is fully aware of the challenges, but we are making concerted efforts to ensure the improvement of teachers' welfare,” he stated. Governor Sule reaffirmed his commitment to supporting teachers through the provision of an enabling environment, ongoing training, and essential teaching aids to enhance their professionalis

In his remarks, Dr. Kassim commended teachers for their dedication to nurturing the younger generation, describing the profession as a noble calling. He urged participants at the conference to conduct a peaceful and credible election of new union leaders.

Echoing the Governor's focus on quality, Dr. Kassim appealed to teachers to redouble their efforts in improving pupils' communication skills, particularly in spoken English. He assured that NSUBEB would maintain a strong partnership with the NUT to sustain progress in the education sector.

In his welcome address, the State Chairman of the NUT, Comrade Ishaka Muhammed Isa, praised Governor Sule for his "exceptional performance" and unwavering support. He highlighted key achievements during his tenure, including the payment of salary arrears owed to teachers, the procurement of official vehicles for the union, and fencing for the NUT permanent site.

While expressing gratitude for the administration's efforts, Comrade Isa appealed for further government investment in school infrastructure, modern libraries and laboratories, and the prioritization of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in schools.

The event was attended by government officials, education stakeholders, and teacher representatives from all 13 Local Government Areas of the state.
