COE Akwanga Equips Youth with Agri-Skills to Tackle Unemployment

 The College of Education, Akwanga, has launched a hands-on agribusiness training program designed to empower young Nigerians with the skills to build careers in agriculture and boost the nation's economy.

The initiative is part of the Federal Government's Nigerian Youth Employment Through Skills Acquisition Fund (NYESAF), aims to train 75,000 youths across the country in high-demand sectors. The program falls under the World Bank-sponsored IDEAS Project, which focuses on improving youth employability and entrepreneurship.

At the flag-off ceremony on Monday, October 27, 2025, the Provost of the College, Dr. Nuhu Barau Barnabas, underscored the critical role of agribusiness in driving economic growth.

"Agriculture remains the backbone of our nation, yet it has been undervalued by our youth," Dr. Barnabas stated. "This program is a vital step towards changing that perception and creating tangible opportunities."

The six-month training, aligned with National Skills Qualification Level 2 standards, will provide 75 participants with practical expertise in poultry production, entrepreneurship, and business management. Upon completion, they will receive a national certificate to enhance their employability and entrepreneurial prospects.

Dr. Barnabas urged the trainees to seize the opportunity. "I urge you to take this training seriously. Learn, practice, and innovate. The skills you acquire here are not just for your personal gain, but for the growth of your families and our nation," he said.

He assured participants of a supportive learning environment and called on them to remain disciplined and focused throughout the program's in-center and apprenticeship phases.

The Provost thanked the Federal and State Governments, as well as the program's implementing partners, for their support in bringing the initiative to fruition.
