New Leadership Emerges for Abia State Journalists' Chapel


Umuahia, Abia State – Steve Oko, acorrespondent with Vanguard Newspapers, has been elected as the new Chairman of the Abia State Council of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

Oko and his executive committee were elected unopposed on Friday during the chapel’s 2025 triennial conference held in Umuahia.

The newly sworn-in leadership team includes:

· Henrietta Ifeanyi Ashikodi (Statesman Newspapers) - Secretary

· Imo Thomas Ejikeme (Standard Times Newspaper) - Member

Additional offices are expected to be filled at a later date.

During the swearing-in ceremony, the Chairman of the Abia State Council of the NUJ, Chidi Asonye, charged the new leaders to be guided by the ethics of the journalism profession and to work towards strengthening its practice within the state.

Describing the Correspondents’ Chapel as the "engine room" of the council, Asonye congratulated the team and urged them to foster unity and ensure inclusive leadership for all members.
