FUTH offers free treatment to 500 emergency patients under NEMSAS

No fewer than 500 emergency patients have benefited from the free treatment from the Federal University Teaching Hospital Lafia (FUTH) within two months.

Mrs Ruth Namo, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the hospital disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lafia.

She explained that the free treatment under its National Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System (NEMSAS) is given within 48 hours to patients affected by Road traffic accidents, gun wounds, obstetric emergencies, snake bites and under-five Paediatric Emergency patients.

The PRO noted that the hospital had started the NEMSAS programme barely two months ago and has so far offered services to more than 500 patients brought to the facility.

Mrs Namo added that the treatment is entirely free for persons in the area the programme has covered who are brought to the hospital.

She therefore assured that the facility is determined to offer the best and affordable healthcare services to the people of the state and beyond in line with its mandate.

Meanwhile, Ahmed Shu'aibu, a husband whose wife had a Caesarean Section (CS) under the NEMSAS programme appreciated the management of the hospital for the initiative.

The husband explained that he was terrified at first the Doctor told him that his wife would deliver through CS. 

"But later the doctor said the operation would be free, I thought it was a joke, but when we came last night, the CS was done successfully, and it was free.

"I appreciate FUTH Lafia for the job done to see that my wife and my baby came out safe from the theatre through the work of God. 

"I am very happy, and I pray that the Almighty God will give them more wisdom to continue the good work they are doing for humanity," he added. (NAN).
