...Federal government seeks state collaboration for large-scale farming initiatives...
Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi A. Sule, has officially commenced the construction of the 24.5km Wamba-Waiyo-Dengi-Allizaga Hill road, a critical link between Wamba Local Government Area and Nassarawa Eggon.
The flag-off ceremony took place on Friday, August 1, 2025, in Wamba, with Governor Sule reaffirming his administration’s dedication to enhancing rural infrastructure to foster inter-community unity and economic growth.
“Our commitment to our people remains unwavering,” Governor Sule declared. “Today marks a historic milestone as we launch this vital road project, awarded at a cost of nine billion, sixty-one million, six hundred and twenty-seven naira. Construction will begin simultaneously from both Wamba and Nassarawa Eggon to ensure timely completion.”
He further revealed plans to extend the road from Nassarawa Eggon to Arikya, underscoring his administration’s broader vision for road infrastructure development.
Governor Sule shared insights from a recent meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, where state governors were urged to prioritize projects that directly alleviate hardships for Nigerians. Key focus areas include agriculture, road construction, and social welfare programs.
“The President has tasked governors with identifying vast arable lands for federal acquisition to boost large-scale farming and food security,” Sule explained. “Additionally, we are scaling up humanitarian efforts, including youth and women empowerment, healthcare improvements, and support for traditional leaders and pensioners.” i
To this end, the Nasarawa State Government has already established a committee to pinpoint areas requiring urgent intervention.
Hon. Jeremiah J. Umaru, the federal lawmaker representing Wamba, Nassarawa Eggon, and Akwanga, lauded Governor Sule’s developmental strides, noting that the state’s progress has attracted federal road projects, including the Wamba-Plama-Nago Jimiya road. He also appealed for the completion of the Arum Losi-Arum Sarki road, initiated under the NG-CARES program.
Akwanga Local Government Chairman and ALGON leader, Hon. Safiyanu Isa Andaha, humorously remarked on the road’s economic impact, joking that Wamba residents might no longer need to pass through Akwanga to reach Lafia. “Your Excellency, with this new route, I fear our people's loyalty may shift.
Earlier, Wamba Local Government Chairman, Hon. Ezekiel Jaga, described the project as a “game-changer” that will unlock economic opportunities for farmers, traders, and youths.
The Director-General of the Nasarawa State Bureau for Rural Development, Engr. Mohammed Sidi Sani, and the contractor, Engr. Dayo Oladunni, commended Governor Sule’s commitment to rural development.
Traditional rulers, including the Oriye Rindre, Justice Lawal Musa Nagogo, and the Aren Eggon, Justice Ahmed Ubangari (Retired), also praised the governor’s leadership, pledging continued support and praying for his success.
Governor Sule concluded the event by formally flagging off the project, expressing optimism that the road will significantly improve connectivity and livelihoods in the region.
