Team Assess Rainstorm Damage in Southern Kaduna Amid Flood Warnings

A seven-day assessment to evaluate damage from recent rain and windstorms across Southern Kaduna (Zone 3) is now underway. The joint operation, led by the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), began on June 10.  

During a visit to Jema’a Local Government Area, KADSEMA’s Zone 3 Coordinator, Mr. Ayuka Shemang, stated the exercise aims to gather accurate data for immediate relief and long-term disaster response planning. He urged stakeholders to prepare for future disasters, citing the Nigeria Meteorological Agency’s flooding predictions for parts of Southern Kaduna.  

IOM’s Kaduna Team Lead, Mr. Arhyel Mbaya, emphasized the mission’s role in ensuring affected communities receive targeted support.  

Jema’a LGA Vice Chairman, Mr. Emmanuel Moses Utung (representing the chairman), welcomed the initiative and confirmed the council’s full cooperation. He noted councillors had already compiled ward-level data to ensure comprehensive coverage. 

Stakeholders at the meeting stressed the need for coordinated disaster response.  

The assessment team includes LGA Directors of Social Development, Red Cross Nigeria, media, traditional institutions, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), and Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI). These groups will verify data and provide multi-sectoral damage analysis.  

Findings will guide emergency aid and long-term climate resilience policies in Southern Kaduna communities.
